One graphic solution to the issue of too much information, not enough data is Stottler Henke's softwareStottler Henke Associates (San Mateo, CA) wants graphs to be as clear as possible. A good graph makes buried information as apparent as the sun on a summer day, and can be the difference between gathering trial data and actually using it to make decisions.

Its DataMontage™ product allows for graphs and timelines to be built from your existing data of, say, adverse events, and then stacked vertically or horizontally to see patterns in three dimensions. Play with the color, dimensions, and values of the graph and timeline symbols to make hidden truths more evident.

One helpful feature is that you do not have to convert all existing data to DataMontage's way of doing things. It can display information as a Java application programming interface or as a handy XML file.

The point of graphs is to take a field of numbers and present them in a form that your eye can quickly interpret better than the raw figures. DataMontage is part of Stottler Henke' Intelligent Patient Data Review Assistant, being developed at the Department of Defense to give doctors the ability to see a patient's true condition.

This software application is the next best thing to putting your lab's hard drive inside a manila envelopeP-Wave, Inc. (Reading, PA) realized that the technology originally intended to save time sometimes ends up gobbling those hours and more. Its new version of LabCORE promises to organize an entire lab's worth of information into one comprehensive online source.

LabCORE V2.01 is an updated version of P-Wave's Web-based document and workflow management application, for labs regulated by FDA or EPA. Its new program contains five new or enhanced features to its lineup.

The Flexible Storage File System allows for files to be stored in multiple locations yet all managed from the LabCORE hub. "Custom clients" let users import content with great ease. Email storage allows the hundred red-flagged notices to be added to the data repository. Electronic signature capabilities allow multiple users to "sign" documents in a 21 CFR 11 compliant manner. And LabCORE's new audit trail allows searches of all activities done using LabCORE—viewing, editing, adding, and signing.

More updates are planned over the course of the year. P-Wave also produces similar applications for other regulated industries.
